What is an abortion or “termination of pregnancy”?
An abortion is the deliberate medical process of ending a pregnancy. An abortion is also known as a ‘termination’ or ‘termination of pregnancy‘. At MSI Reproductive Choices UK we offer two types of abortion care: medical abortion (abortion pills) and surgical abortion.
What is a medical abortion (also known as ‘abortion with pills’?
A medical abortion uses medication to end a pregnancy. The treatment involves taking two types of medicine – mifepristone and misoprostol – at two different times. It is the safest treatment option up to 9 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy for most people.

Which abortion is right for me?
There are two types of abortion: medical (or abortion with pills) and surgical. Most people having an abortion can choose how it will be carried out.
The type of procedure you can be offered will depend on a few personal factors. Things like your gestation (how many weeks pregnant you are), past medical history and gynaecological history will all help determine which method is best for you.

What is the “At home abortion pills” service?
If you meet safety criteria to allow for medical abortion without a scan, the abortion medication can either be collected by you from a clinic or posted to your home address after your consultation appointment. This consultation appointment either takes place over the phone or face-to-face at one of our clinics. 90% of clients receive their treatment within 10 days.

How to have an abortion at home in London?
We have an “At home abortion pills” service: if you meet safety criteria to allow for medical abortion without a scan, the abortion medications can either be collected by you from a centre or posted to your home address after your phone consultation.
You can always call our free advice line on 0345 300 8090: our experienced and trained agents will explain the next steps, book you in for a phone consultation and will offer the option of free counselling appointments. You can also book your consultation appointment online.
Before your abortion, you will have a consultation with one of our specially-trained nurses or midwives. This will take place either over the phone or at one of our clinic
We will calculate your gestation (how many weeks pregnant you are) and take a full medical history from you. We may also carry out some tests to ensure your safety.
Following your consultation, if you are eligible for our at-home abortion service, you will have the choice of either collecting the pills from your preferred clinic or having them posted to you.
Your Medical Abortion Pack will contain:
– Both sets of abortion pills
– One box containing codeine tablets (unless opted out/medically unsuitable after consultation)
– One pregnancy test (this is not a normal pregnancy test and is only designed to check whether the abortion has been successful – please keep this safe as you will need to use this three weeks after taking your tablets)
– An STI (Sexually transmitted Infection) screening kit
– Contraceptive pills (if requested)
