MSI Reproductive Choices UK’s Manchester clinic nominated for parliamentary award
London, 4th May 2023
Jeff Smith MP has nominated MSI Reproductive Choices UK’s Manchester clinic for an NHS Parliamentary Award 2023 in the Health Equalities category.
Last November the clinic became the first ever abortion service to achieve an ‘outstanding’ rating from the Care Quality Commission. The team was particularly praised for accessibility and inclusivity, for dedication to client needs, for innovations on waiting times, for high quality and safeguarding standards and for keeping team members motivated.
The awards began in 2018 as part of the NHS 70th birthday celebrations to strengthen relationships between health services and parliamentarians. They are held every year in partnership with political intelligence agency Dods. Hospitals, GP surgeries, community services, volunteers and outstanding individuals are among those that can be nominated by their local MP in one of 10 categories. Last year, the awards received 700 nominations. As the NHS approaches its 75th birthday this year, the competition is likely to be fierce.
Jeff Smith is the Labour MP for Manchester Withington. MSI UK’s Manchester clinic sits within his constituency. He has shown support to the clinic in the past, such as backing safe access zones at a local and national level.
Nominations will first go, via NHS England, to a regional judging panel. One nomination from each category will be named as the shortlisted regional champion. The regional champions will be announced on 14th June. Winners will be announced on 5th July.
