Nearly one in three pregnancies ends in an abortion worldwide. Yet, this aspect of healthcare is not often talked about in every day conversation. Abortion stigma can make some people feel like their decision must be kept secret and silent, we are here for you.
Our abortion services
At MSI UK, we offer both medical and surgical abortion care.
A medical abortion (also known as the abortion pill) involves taking two types of medication (mifepristone and misoprostol) at two different times, to end a pregnancy. At MSI UK, a medical abortion is available up to 9 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy. We offer both face-to-face medical abortion care, and at-home abortion pills (also known as telemedicine).
A surgical abortion is a safe and simple procedure used to end a pregnancy, and involves the pregnancy being removed vaginally by an experienced doctor either by using suction (vacuum aspiration) or specialised instruments (dilation and evacuation). At MSI UK, a surgical abortion is available up to 23 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy.
Should I get an abortion?
The counselling team at MSI UK is experienced and qualified to help you explore and manage your thoughts, feelings, and options as you make decisions about your care. Counsellors are approved by the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy.
It’s important to know that our counsellors don’t offer you advice, but instead help you deal with issues and realise your coping strategies.
We have both male and female counsellors in our team. If you would be more comfortable talking to a counsellor of a specific gender, please let us know when arranging an appointment.
What is an abortion or “termination of pregnancy”?
An abortion is the deliberate medical process of ending a pregnancy. An abortion is also known as a ‘termination’ or ‘termination of pregnancy‘. At MSI Reproductive Choices UK we offer two types of abortion care: medical abortion (abortion pills) and surgical abortion.
If you’d like to talk through your options, call us on 0345 300 8090 for a confidential chat.
Are abortions safe?
Abortion is very safe, when performed in a Department of Health and Care Quality Commission registered clinic, with specialists performing approved treatment, like at MSI Reproductive Choices UK.
Which abortion is right for me? Types of abortion
There are two types of abortion: medical (or abortion with pills) and surgical.
Most people having an abortion can choose how it will be carried out.
The type of procedure you can be offered will depend on a few personal factors. Things like your gestation (how many weeks pregnant you are), past medical history, gynaecological history will all help determine which method is best for you.
