Our abortion services
At MSI UK, we offer both medical and surgical abortion care.
A medical abortion (also known as the abortion pill) involves taking two types of medication (mifepristone and misoprostol) at two different times, to end a pregnancy. At MSI UK, a medical abortion is available up to 9 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy. We offer both face-to-face medical abortion care, and at-home abortion pills (also known as telemedicine).
A surgical abortion is a safe and simple procedure used to end a pregnancy, and involves the pregnancy being removed vaginally by an experienced doctor either by using suction (vacuum aspiration) or specialised instruments (dilation and evacuation). At MSI UK, a surgical abortion is available up to 23 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy.

At Home Abortion Pills: talk to a nurse in 48 hours
If you meet safety criteria to allow for medical abortion without a scan, the abortion medication can either be collected by you from a clinic or posted to your home address after your phone or face-to-face consultation appointment. 90% of clients receive their treatment within 10 days.
How to book your abortion pills kit
Medical abortion (or the abortion pill, as it’s sometimes called) involves taking two types of medication at different times to end a pregnancy.
At MSI Reproductive Choices, medical abortion is available up to 9 weeks + 6 days of pregnancy. Not everyone is suitable for a medical abortion, and you may be offered a surgical abortion.
You can always call our free advice line on 0345 300 8090: our experienced and trained agents will explain the next steps, book you in for a phone consultation and will offer the option of free counselling appointments.
You can also book your consultation appointment online.
Before your abortion, you will have a consultation with one of our specially-trained nurses or midwives.
We will calculate your gestation (how many weeks pregnant you are) and take a full medical history from you. We may also carry out some tests to ensure your safety.
Following your consultation, you will have the choice of either collecting the pills from your preferred clinic or having them posted to you. Your Medical Abortion Pack will contain:
– Both sets of abortion pills
– One box containing codeine tablets (unless opted out/medically unsuitable after consultation)
– One pregnancy test (this is not a normal pregnancy test and is only designed to check whether the abortion has been successful – please keep this safe as you will need to use this three weeks after taking your tablets)
– An STI (Sexually transmitted Infection) screening kit
– Contraceptive pills (if requested)
Recovery time after an abortion will be different for everyone, but you’ll usually feel better within a few days. However, if you feel like you’re experiencing any problems – either physical or emotional – after the treatment, we’re here to help.
We have a dedicated aftercare line 24 hours a day and talk to one of our friendly, experienced nurses. You can always call our dedicated aftercare line: 0345 122 1441.
You don’t need a GP referral to access NHS-funded care
98% of MSI Reproductive Choices abortions in the UK are funded by the NHS. This means that there will be no cost to you for your abortion. Call us any time to arrange an appointment. You can self-refer, so you don’t need to call your GP to get an appointment.

A “Safe Access Zone” is in place around our Manchester clinic in Fallowfield
A Safe Access Zone, also commonly called a Buffer Zone, is an area surrounding the abortion provider premises where specific gatherings and activities that are known to have a detrimental effect on clinic visitors are prohibited. The official zone is a designated distance around the premises to protect service user’s privacy and confidentiality.
“The support and kindness I experienced from MSI was incredible. They were there for me when I really needed someone, and made the whole thing as straightforward as possible.”
Abortion is an aspect of healthcare that is not often talked about in everyday conversation, and abortion stigma can make some people feel like their decision must be kept secret and silent. Our clients wanted to share their stories with you, so you can know what to expect, know you are not alone, and feel reassured – whatever your decision may be.
