MSI Reproductive Choices UK welcomes the government’s renewed Women’s Health Strategy for England.

MSI UK is a proud supporter of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Sexual and Reproductive Health, which has been calling for this strategy to be refreshed.

In response to the publication, Louise McCudden, MSI Reproductive Choices’ UK head of communications and advocacy, said:

“We welcome the government’s renewed focus on women’s health. As a charity providing both abortion and contraception, we are glad the government recognises the need to join up reproductive health.

“It’s simply not good enough that women’s experiences continue to be dismissed. Everyone deserves to be listened to, offered appropriate pain relief, and given real choice over their care. Finding the right contraception is transformative, yet too many are still struggling to get the information and support they need, particularly for long-acting methods like the coil and implant. At MSI, we offer anyone using our services who opts for the coil the choice of four types of local anaesthetic, as well as the option of taking painkillers before the procedure, but sadly this is not the case everywhere.

“In recent years, MPs across all major parties have voted to stop prosecuting people for ending their own pregnancies, to ban harassment of women outside abortion clinics, and to make at-home abortion care legal. Effective engagement with NHS England has also improved the availability and sustainability of abortion care throughout the country. We are pleased the Women’s Health Strategy continues this progress and we look forward to working constructively with the government and the NHS.”
