MSI Reproductive Choices UK receives Capital Nurse Quality Mark for Preceptorship Programme

MSI Reproductive Choices UK is proud to have been awarded the CapitalNurse Quality Mark for the outstanding support it offers to newly qualified nurses and midwives.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) recognises that newly qualified nurses and midwives need support when they start their first role. This support is called Preceptorship, a structured period where nurses and midwives are supported by an experienced practitioner to develop their confidence, competence, critical thinking and decision-making skills.

MSI Reproductive Choices launched its iBelong Preceptorship Programme in autumn 2019 and have recruited four newly qualified practitioners with a cohort of seven more due to join in the autumn.

Newly qualified midwife Angela Gale, who is completing her preceptorship at the MSI Reproductive Choices Maidstone centre said:

Support is so important and reaching out and getting the right support has enabled me to grow and develop. Being part of a small preceptorship group has enabled me to ask questions. It is a safe place to evolve and be the professional that I want to be.”

Starting a career at MSI Reproductive Choices

Nurses and midwives starting their career at MSI Reproductive Choices work alongside members of the multidisciplinary team to support women with their reproductive choices in a dynamic nurse-led environment. The opportunities for training are excellent: with nurses and midwives encouraged to gain skills in ultrasound scanning and fitting long-acting reversible contraception.

The programme offers professional and clinical skills workshops with ongoing work-based learning, supervision and development and is underpinned by monthly study sessions and training that nurses and midwives can put into practice on their next shift.

Angela Jones, Clinical Educator at MSI Reproductive Choices said:

Our nurses and midwives are at the heart of our charity providing compassionate, non-judgemental support and high-quality care for our clients. They give their all every day and we are proud to give them the support and development they need to reach their full potential.”
