We are delighted to welcome the newly published NHS England guidance for abortion care.

This new guidance reflects many months of productive dialogue with the NHS about the challenges facing our sector. We are especially pleased that NHS England has recognised the importance of ‘choice of provider’ in abortion care, the urgency of strengthening our surgical workforce, the historic underfunding of abortion, and the fact that providers have managed to reduce overall waiting times for telemedicine, despite operating within this challenging context.

At MSI Reproductive Choices UK, we are incredibly proud that our Deputy Medical Director Dr Yvonne Neubauer has led the way on nurturing clinical talent by training new surgeons to deliver specialist complex care. Yvonne’s work has already been held up by NHS England as an example of best practice which could be replicated around the country, and we are pleased to see such a clear recognition of the pressures facing surgical abortion care reiterated in this guidance.

Read the guidance here.
