A client from South London shares her surgical abortion story

“Every single member of staff that I came into contact with was so supportive and friendly and made me feel instantly at ease.” 

A client shares her experience of accessing MSI abortion services at our clinic in South London.

“I found myself wondering where my period was. I could be late, but not this late. Hours before I was due on a night out, I took the test and realised I was pregnant.” 

I was in shock and asked myself “what do I do now?”

Thankfully, MSI UK were there for me. I had my first appointment at the South London Centre in Brixton. Everyone was beyond welcoming, and they did more than required to make me feel comfortable and get me the next available appointment.

Two weeks passed, and I was now 12 weeks and 3 days pregnant but I tested positive for COVID and had to reschedule my appointment twice before I attended the clinic. COVID had affected me negatively so when I made it to my appointment, I was now 16 weeks pregnant. I was showing, and extremely anxious about the procedure. Every single member of staff that I came into contact with was so supportive and friendly and made me feel instantly at ease. I was made to feel safe, and I cannot put into words how important that is.

The nurses that saw me were incredible and the midwives in the recovery room were amazing. The midwife who helped me get to and from the surgery was so lovely and supportive. When I walked into the surgery, I became overwhelmed, and another nurse held my hand and supported me through it all. She made sure I got to sleep calmly and was just the rock that I needed. Thank you to everyone.

The whole visit took less than four hours. I am forever grateful to every member of staff that I came into contact with that day who helped me.
