“I am utterly grateful”

In this story, a client shares their experience accessing medical abortion care after becoming pregnant unexpectedly and knowing this wasn’t what they wanted. They discuss speaking with their doctor before finding out they were eligible for NHS-funded abortion care.

I found out I was pregnant and was utterly shocked. I just didn’t think I could ever get pregnant.

I felt overwhelmed with the situation and knew continuing this pregnancy would be a mistake. I just couldn’t picture it.

“This just wasn’t my plan”

As much as I adore kids and my husband, who already has children from a previous relationship, this just wasn’t my plan and there was no way I could do this financially – I have no village behind me.

The decision to terminate came easy, although it was bittersweet because of how much I love my husband. He’s a brilliant father too, so I knew if we had this baby it would be so loved and such a little miracle – but I just didn’t want it.

“I thought I might be judged for the decision I had already made my mind up about.”

I tried to contact my doctor, but I struggle with anxiety, and as soon as I mentioned I was pregnant the nurse was so over the moon congratulating me which made me feel so uncomfortable. I just left without booking an appointment as I thought I might be judged for the decision that I already made my mind up about.

“The midwife I spoke to was so so lovely and I am so grateful.”

I did some online research and found MSI, through their live chat option I found out immediately that I was eligible for NHS-funded abortion care and scheduled a phone consultation.

The midwife I spoke to was so so lovely and I am so grateful to have spoken to her. She explained everything in great detail, and didn’t once made me feel uncomfortable.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

The box with the tablets for an at-home medical abortion came the next day. I cannot believe how quick and simple the process was. Yes, the actual abortion was no walk in the park, but I couldn’t have done it without MSI Reproductive Choices. I am utterly grateful for their professionalism, the way their staff treat patients and the way the midwives are trained for hard conversations.

I am NEVER going to forget. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
