The nomination highlights the incredible work that went in to implementing a new telemedicine pathway, making it possible to offer “at-home” early medical abortion just six days after it was approved by the Government.

The telemedicine transformation removed the barriers preventing women accessing care during the pandemic and negated the need for thousands of women a month to make unnecessary journeys to a clinic at a time when we were being advised to stay home to reduce the risk of transmitting the virus.

But perhaps most importantly it enabled us to continue to provide safe, patient-centred care.

Betty Njuguna, Associate Director of Nursing at MSI Reproductive Choices UK, said:

We are absolutely thrilled that we have made it to the finals of these prestigious awards. Competition is stiff and this demonstrates the exceptional standard of nursing we provide at MSI Reproductive Choices UK and how all our nurses, and the multi-disciplinary teams they work with, play such a vital role in the first class care given daily to our clients.

Team members from every function and level of the organisation worked collaboratively to achieve this objective: from the Safeguarding Nurses and Clinical Service Matrons in charge of delivering the service to the Medical Director and Quality & Governance team setting the overall strategy.

Equally integral were MSI Reproductive Choices UK’s contact centre, procurement, project management and nurse training teams.

The changes have required wholesale service reform, particularly for our nursing team who were used to face-to-face consultations and had to adapt quickly to a wholly different way of consulting.

However, in the face of marked opposition from anti-choice organisations, uncertainty around the longevity of the changes and significant logistical challenges, the whole team really came on board and adapted to this colossal transformation from day one.

The winners will be announced live at the Awards Ceremony, which takes place on Wednesday 14 October 2020 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The “Nursing Times Workforce awards”: two more prestigious nominations

MSI Reproductive Choices UK has been shortlisted for two more Nursing Times awards, this time in the category of “Workforce awards”:

  • Our iProgress Pathway Project has been shortlisted in the Nursing Times Workforce awards in the category of Best Workplace for Learning and Development – Under 1,500 Nursing Staff
  • and our iBelong Preceptorship programme has been shortlisted for the Preceptorship of the Year – Under 1,500 Nursing Staff

Finalists of the 2020 Nursing Times Workforce Awards revealed

We couldn’t be more proud of our fantastic teams and their effort to make reproductive choices a reality for men and women in the UK.

The winners of the Nursing Times Workforce Awards will be announced during a glittering ceremony at The Brewery in London on Wednesday 2 December 2020.
